Dr. Steven Hoefflin was born in Seattle, Washington. His mother, Gloria Harrison Hoefflin was a homemaker. His father, David, was an engineer/businessman with the Marquart Aircraft Company Aeronautical Engineering Group who went to Ogden, Utah to secretly build the first Intercontinental Ballistic Missle that carried a nuclear bomb. Dr. Hoefflin's great-great grandfather was William Harrison, the 9th President of the United States and was one of the first signers of the declaration of independence.  Dr. Hoefflin's great-grand father was president Benjamin Harrison, who was the 23th president of the United States. The doctor’s great-great grandfather was Luis Jose Terrazas, the governor of Chihuahua (Mexico).  According to the Guinness Book of World Records, he was the largest landowner in the world at the time as he owned some 30 million acres of land.

Dr. Hoefflin graduated first in his class at UCLA Medical School in 1972. He continued his education in general surgery and completed a full plastic surgical residency training program at the UCLA Medical Center, where he received the coveted Surgical Medal Award.

Dr. Hoefflin is considered to be a world-renowned authority in advanced aesthetic surgery.  He is frequently published in books and medical journals and holds visiting professorship positions at numerous universities around the world.  He is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.). Dr. Hoefflin was an Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at UCLA Medical Center, where he received the Teacher of the Year Award, (1985-1986), and Best Clinical Faculty Teacher (2002-2003). He was Chief of Plastic Surgery at UCLA-Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center, (1982-1989) and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Brotman Medical Center, (1980-1985). He is a visiting professor for the International School of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Hoefflin is a past-President of the Los Angeles Plastic Surgery Society.  Dr. Hoefflin is also a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society for Plastic  Surgeons, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Lipoplasty Society, Bay Surgical Society, Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation, The Rhinoplasty Society, The Royal Society of Medicine, and is a Fellow of The International College of Surgeons.

Due to Dr. Hoefflin's profound interest and expertise in plastic surgical innovations and education, he is frequently requested to teach at national and international plastic surgery meetings.

Thirty-Eight years ago, Dr. Hoefflin started the Dr. Steven Hoefflin Child Poverty Project in Guadalajara, Mexico. It expanded to Mexico City and over the last 14 years to the shanty town slums in the outskirts of Acapulco. Dr. Hoefflin has visited, operated, taught, worked with and cared for disabled and impoverished children in over 82 different countries.
 

Dr. Hoefflin is a Charcoal and Pencil artist who trained under the late Glen Orbik and Time Gula at the California Arts Institute and under Jeffrey Watts at the Watts Atelier of the Arts in Encinitas, California.
